JAYA (@jayawinjaya) Release “WEWE NDIWE” SINGLE & VIDEO

One of Kenya’s most talented female vocalists, Jaya releases “Wewe Ndiwe” (You Are The One)—a breath of fresh air in the Kenyan music industry, and Africa as a whole. This is the first single off her first solo project. Shot by J. Blessing, Jaya describes the video as “something new and authentic to offer the world.” The African themed video and song is a tribute to all fathers, and inspired by relationships between fathers and their children. Jaya says, “The song celebrates fathers present and active in their children’s lives in an era of absent fathers, abusive fathers, destructive fathers, lost fathers and passive fathers.”

“Wewe Ndiwe” media launch went down successfully (Jan 15th 2015) at Hotel Intercontinental Rooftop. (Kindly make a request for pictures from the event if need be). On Tuesday 20th Jan 2015, Jaya is holding her second “Wewe Ndiwe” release event at Mseto Wakilisha East Africa event at Club Tribeka from 10:00 p.m. Free Entrance. Good vibes.

Jaya is currently recording her debut album under Pinecreek Records where she is also signed. Apart from working with industry greats like R Kay, Ennovator and Jaaz Odongo on the production of the album; she has collaborated with East Africa’s celebrated songstress Lady Jaydee. Their song “Sasa” will be part of her new album compilation, set for release this year

Editor’s Notes:

Jaya’s childhood was greatly influenced by things musical. Jaya’s musical journey took off in 2008 when she joined the Kenya Conservatoire of music as a voice and guitar student. Jaya soon began paving her way in the industry as a back-up singer. Her first brush with Pinecreek was in 2009 when she graced the stage as back-up vocalist for David Ogola (2nd Runner’s up TPF 2) at The Fame Affair event hosted by Pinecreek.

Jaya has worked with Kenyan award-winning rapper Juliani on projects such as his climate-change campaign song “Rauka (ama hatuta-survive)” and in the acclaimed “Bahasha Ya Ocampo” (2011). She has also sung alongside various international acts such as American-born gospel singer Deitrick Haddon (Detroit, USA) and West African Idol winner Timi Dakolo (Nigeria).
In 2013, Jana released her debut single “Heart Right Here” which won an KMVA music video award (Kenya) for Techno/House/Dance video of the year (December 2013). In September 2014, she performed at MasterPeace Concert in the Netherlands at the UN International Day of Peace.
