The Nairobi County Government on Tuesday closed the Chinese
Restaurant in Hurlingham that was accused of being racist for not admitting
Africans after 5 pm.
In a statement to the press, City
Hall said the owners of the hotel have no permit for change of user from
residential to commercial, which is a requirement to operate a business in
Nairobi.
The statement said the restaurant
owners had no valid liquor licence and have not complied with public health
requirements for food handling and testing.
“As of now the Nairobi County
Government has closed down the premise….The County has deployed security
officers and the premise will remain closed,” Nairobi County Public Relations
Officer, Beryl Okundi, said.
Okundi also said all business and
service providers in Kenya must ensure that all customers and clients are
treated with respect and dignity, irrespective of race, colour, sex, tribe and
religion.
Sources said it is only Nairobi
Senator, Mike Sonko and former Cabinet Minister, Raphael Tuju, who were allowed
in the hotel after 5 pm.
The hotel allegedly turned into a s£x
den after 5 pm and that is why they chased away Africans, another
source said
