Egypt
will play Sierra Leone in a warm up friendly ahead of next month’s 2014
World Cup playoff on Saturday, September 28 in Cairo. The match is to
gauge Bob Bradley’s teams’ preparation for the first leg of the playoff
against Ghana’s Black Stars on October 13 in Kumasi.
The
Pharaohs will parade an entirely local squad that begins preparation on
Wednesday, September 25 for the two-legged encounter that will give
birth to one of the five African teams for next year’s Mundial in
Brazil. According to the Egyptian Football Association, the Pharaohs
will remain in camp after the friendly with the Leone Stars, to
fine-tune ahead of their trip to Ghana second biggest city, Kumasi, next
month.
Earlier
in the week, Bradley named 23-local based players for the encounter
with African champions, Al-Ahly contributing 11 of them. Archrivals
Zamalek has five players in the squad with Al Masry, Ismaily and Wadi
Degla also represented.
The
American has also invited 10 foreign-based players led by Swiss-based
Mohamed Salah of FC Basel fame for the Ghana tie. Others are Adam El-Abd
(Brighton, England), Ahmed Elmohamady (Hull City, England), Mohamed
El-Neny (FC Basel, Switzerland), Ibrahim Salah (Al Orouba, Saudi
Arabia), Hossam Ghaly (Lierse, Belgium), Mahmoud Abdel-Moneim 'Kahraba'
(FC Luzern, Switzerland),
The
rest are Mohamed Nagy 'Gedo' (Hull City, England), Ahmed Hassan 'Koka'
(Rio Ave, Portugal) and Amr Zaki (Al-Salmiya, Kuwait).
Egypt,
the only team with a hundred percent record in the African qualifiers,
are eyeing their first appearance at the World Cup since 1990. The
Pharaohs’ other appearance was in 1934 in Italy.
