A senior police officer, who was among those evacuating Garissa
University Students after a terror attack that hit the university
last week, told Reuters that victims of the attack that left 148
dead did not fight back sufficiently against the Al Shabaab terrorists.
The officer, who was identified as
Pius Masai Mwachi, said the students should have engaged with the terrorists
instead of dying helplessly like cockroaches.
“When you are in the hands of
terrorists, free yourself as soon as possible. Fight out. Don’t just be killed
like cockroaches, fight out. Some of you’ll be safe, because in fight out [sic],
shout, make a noise, people come for assistance,” Mwachi said.
Mwachi’s comments have caused
anger in social media with many Kenyans saying he was blaming the dead people
for not attempting to attack the gunmen that stormed their campus.
Four gunmen, who were armed with semi
automatic guns and grenades stormed the university last week and killed 148
people and injured dozens.
