Panic has gripped Kapsowar Town and the entire Elgeyo Marakwet County
after Somali based terror group, Al Shabaab, allegedly threatened to unleash
terror on learning institutions.
The Al Shabaab circulated leaflets in
schools warning of an impending terror attack targeting learning institutions.
Some of the terror leaflets were found
stuffed under the door of a local primary school.
In the leaflet, the Al Shabaab claimed that
they have members all over Elgeyo Marakwet who are ready to carry out
terror attacks starting with all learning institutions in Kapsowar Division,
before bombing the town, colleges and university.
The leaflet went on to say that the Al Shabaab
were angered by Deputy President William Ruto’s pronouncement that the
Government will close the Dadaab Refugee Camp and force refugees back to
Somalia, yet Kenyan soldiers are still in Somalia.
Area leaders called for heightened
security and asked the Government to treat the warning seriously.
“Security organs should treat this
matter with the seriousness it deserves because terror attacks are real in our
country. We don’t want surprises again,” said area MP, William Kisang.
On his part, the area Chief urged
locals to enhance the Nyumba Kumi
initiative and remain alert all the time to nap the Al Shabaab culprits before
they strike.
