Embattled Kenya Police Air Wing Commandant, Roggers Mbithi, has
admitted that he used a police aircraft to fly his daughters in Mombasa instead
of flying Recee Squad to Garissa to rescue students who had been attacked by Al
Shabaab terrorists leading to deaths of 147 of them.
However, he dispelled allegations that
he used the plane for a private mission, saying the plane had gone to Mombasa
for a scheduled training of police pilots and only offered to airlift his
daughter in-law and two other children to Nairobi.
He noted that he takes full
responsibility for his action and even explained everything to Inspector
General of Police, Joseph Boinnet.
“There is nothing to hide. It came back
with her and two small children. I took full responsibility and explained
that,” said Mbithi.
At the same time, Mbithi also denied
claims that he had hired the plane to a businessman saying apart from his
daughter in-law and two children, only the instructor and his student were on
board.
