Members of Parliament drawn from North Eastern region have re-affirmed
their position and commitment to release the names of financiers and sympathizers
of Somalia-based militants, Al Shabaab.
Addressing the media in Parliament
Buildings yesterday, the MPs and Senators confirmed Kenyans’ worst fear that
they know the Al Shabaab and their financiers operating in Kenya and that they
will expose them within the stipulated time just as National Assembly Majority
Leader, Aden Duale, had indicated.
“As we said two weeks ago that we know
the Al Shabaab and their financiers, we meant it, and we are going to name and
shame them at the time that Duale stipulated,” said the leaders.
This comes even as Duale faces a public
backlash for these similar sentiments that he will name Al Shabaab in one month’s
time after the massacre if 147 students of Garissa University, a move that saw
Kenyans demand for his sacking in the pretext that he is an Al Shabaab
sympathizer.
However, North Eastern leaders said
they will not be cowed by those linking them to Al Shabaab and vowed to
continue working with their constituents and security agencies to defeat
terrorism that has threatened Kenya’s stability.
