Over 200 US Secret Service agents have arrived in the country to
neutralize security threats posed by Al Shabaab terrorists ahead of US
President Barrack Obama’s visit later in July.
The officers arrived alongside some vehicles
that the US President will use in his convoy while in Kenya, which are kept at
the US Embassy in Gigiri under the watchful eye of the Secret Service, who are
responsible for the President’s safety and security.
Many Secret Service agents are in Nairobi,
although another team has been sent to Kisumu and Siaya to protect Obama’s
grandmother, Mama Sarah, and the family during the time her grandson will be in
the country as Al Shabaab may want to take advantage of Obama’s presence to
attack his family in Kenya just to get back at him.
However, it is not clear if the US
President will visit Kisumu or his father’s place in Kogelo, Siaya, because such
details are still classified for security reasons.
The Secret Service will also be
responsible for the security of two senior US Government officials, among them
Secretary of State, John Kerry, who is expected in the country next week to
discuss security issues and terror threats.
Kenya’s very own elite squad – Recce - will
not be allowed anywhere near the US President but will be left to man roads and
streets.
